Frequently Asked Questions
-
I see individuals, couples, and families. I am not currently seeing children younger than 17 in my practice except in the context of family therapy, which usually means primarily working with the important adult family members/caregivers as opposed to the child directly in any sustained way.
-
I am a social worker by training, and this means that I am deeply interested in how my clients’ (and my own) various identities, family ties, and community connections / disconnections shape experience. We will be talking about race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious / spiritual practices, class, and the many hats each of us wears in life (e.g., mother, daughter, son, spouse, sibling, grandparent, employee, boss, etc.) and how these impact our behavior, wants, needs, strengths, and vulnerabilities. I consider myself a relational, systemic family therapist, so even when I work with individual clients, I will explore family history with the goal of understanding some of the deepest hurts in people’s lives as well as identifying some of our greatest strengths.

I work with clients to determine a fee. Therapy isn’t cheap, but it is an investment in your (or your family’s) well being and growth. I am committed to discussing money in a transparent and direct way with all my clients.

I do not accept insurance. If you have out-of-network benefits, you can submit a superbill (which I will provide monthly) to get reimbursed in accordance with your insurance plan. If you need assistance navigating insurance, please let me know.

I have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. If you do not cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours of advance notice, you will be charged the full session fee.

If we determine that medication could be a useful tool for you, I will help you identify an appropriate psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner who can evaluate and prescribe medication.
